So, how influential are you? This is what flash sales site Gilt Group is asking customers under a deal with social media influence site Klout. Gilt is offering customers with high Klout scores discounts of up to 100% on apparel and home décor for one week.
This unprecedented promotion is part of a greater effort by Gilt to market its properties through partnerships with other innovative sites. Discounts during the promotion are based on Klout scores and range from 20% to 100% off.
Gilt’s decision to base discounts on customer influence is interesting one, said Blacks Founder and Senior Consultant Steve Pruitt.
“By tapping into a influential audience, they could significantly expand their exposure to new customers,” he said.
While we will have to wait to see how successful the promotion is, we wouldn’t be surprised if other retailers start paying more attention to their customers’ online influence.
